WHAT ARE SOME DIFFERENCES AMONG CAMPS?
CCUSA works with hundreds of camps that are each different from one another. However, camps can be grouped into overall types.
Private/Traditional Camps
These camps are operated by families who have been successfully operating camps for generations. These can be Co-ed, or All-Boys or All- Girls.  These camps are steeped in tradition and encourage kids to take advantage of an expansive set of offerings to promote the exposure to a multitude of activities. From popular team sports to individual sports, the performing arts, equestrian programs, and a range of water sports – the options are endless in terms of the level and breadth.
Specialty Camps
Specialty camps offer a range of activities, but provide focused or extensive learning in a particular area. Most of these camps also offer a broad range of options daily, but every child is also exposed to this specialty and kids find common interest and an individualized focus in key areas, such as wilderness adventure, sailing, equestrian training, certain sports or performing arts to name a few.
Family Camps
Family camps offer a range of experiences for the whole family, including all the typical activities offered at a traditional camp for kids. Families stay in their own cabin or lodge, and all activities and meals are included just like typical kids camps. Some activities are offered just for kids or geared toward the whole family altogether.  From boating and kayaking to pottery, tennis, and ropes courses. At night families connect over a campfire or for fun and games. Families connect with one another in a peaceful setting trying new things together, and exploring Bring your whole family to spend a week but provide focused or extensive learning in a particular area. Non-Profit/ Agency
These camps are sponsored by organizations who contribute to their mission. Often these camps may be lower in cost than privately-owned camps, but they still offer much of the same program activities. Typically, these camps may have more rustic accommodations and host a diverse range of campers from several socio-economic backgrounds. These include Girl Scouts, the YMCA, JCC, the Salvation Army, Universities, Hospitals, and other independent organizations.
Sports Team Camps
These camps host special experiences for sports teams and other groups to travel together to camp along with their coach. Many of these camps are hosted on university campuses, with Olympic or elite sports program coaches directing specialized training camps. Among these are options for Swim, Tennis, Gymnastics, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and many other sports for teams to travel and attend together. Cultural excursions are often included in nearby cities and campers stay in dormitories with members of their team.
Religious Camps
Similar to Non-profit camps, many summer camps are funded through churches, synagogues, or other religious groups to carry out spiritual development as a part of the character development they promote at camp. CCUSA works with a range of Catholic, Christian, and Jewish Camps among other faiths as well. These offer a range of religious observance- from Christian or Jewish in name, to advanced bible or Torah studies and traditions.
Special Needs
Camps serving campers with a particular need, whether it is a common experience such as those who have diabetes, a specific learning ability, or potentially those who have a particular challenge such as Autism, Blindness, or a breadth of cognitive, emotional, or physical abilities.
